Vladimir Smachtin was born in 1955 in Moscow, in the former United Socialist Soviet Republic, which today is Russia. He exemplifies the naturally gifted artist who regards the world as his university and looks there to learn something new every day about his art. He has had exhibitions in Bulgaria, Germany, Finland, Poland, the United States, and Russia.
