tatiana akoeva

Tatiana Akoeva is a Russian-born artist living in New York City and Bradenton, Florida. She primarily works in oils. Her work combines intuitive and perceptual ways in a realistic approach to contemporary painting. She received her MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2019 where she was granted a Merit Scholarship and a Blick Award upon graduation.

Akoeva’s paintings oscillate between her observed and perceived realities. In her perceived reality, color is subjective. So, in her paintings, she uses color to signify meaning and emotion. These vibrant colors and the sensuousness of paint are the driving forces of my practice. It communicates the subtexts. There is always an action that is implied because she intentionally leaves aspects of each painting unanswered. In this way, her paintings premiere a story applying cinematic imagery and encompassing much more than the appearance of the subject.

Akoeva has participated in numerous exhibitions in the USA and abroad. Her paintings are in private collections in the USA and Europe. Currently, Akoeva serves as an adjunct professor at the State College of Florida.
