Hal Schwarze attended the Portfolio Center for Design in Atlanta, Georgia. He focused on the illustration program and then gravitated after school to fine art painting. He immediately began taking his works out on the streets of Atlanta and garnered a following. From there he started showing in galleries and fine dining restaurants. In 2009, Hal garnered a placement in the Federal Home Loan Bank in downtown Atlanta with seven large works. Throughout the years he has sold hundreds of works both nationally and internationally.

Hal states, “The impetus for my work stems from delving into both conscious and subconscious artifacts. Memories of moments spent in observation of the human condition. For instance, my abstract figurative works are not from reference material; rather, it is the imaginative remembrance of the human form throughout my lifetime, whether from physical romantic memories or perhaps observing someone standing in a subway tunnel. For me, the beauty and intrigue of abstract painting is seeking the poetry of line, color and form to create something unique and never seen. Rather than literal representation, I find the poetry of abstraction remarkable and satisfying. Capturing the nuance of expression that will captivate the viewer is the beautiful struggle of art.”

This body of work explores the combination of linear elements with more expansive fields of negative space. The piece entitled “Heiroglyphica” is an unusual piece, which Hal decided to include in this show for added variety. It follows (in its own way) thematically with Ethereal Journey in that it incorporates a certain pictographic language. Perhaps an undiscovered language? Also, the landscape entitled “Elysian Fields” is representative of realistic geography that takes part in a spiritual journey, aligning with the journey of this body of work .
