Nancy Turner was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. She studied theatre and sociology at Ohio University, as well as education at Ohio State University. She graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. degree in education. Her artistic perspective reflects her mid-Western roots and liberal education.
In 1964, she moved to California where she started her artistic career, focusing on stained glass and abstract art. In the early ’90s, she took her first printmaking classes at the University of South Dakota. After taking a year off to deal with breast cancer, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. She later attended the Ringling School of Art & Design in Sarasota, where she received a BFA with honors.
Nancy works as a printmaker and painter. An active participant in politics and the women’s movement, she is especially concerned about the rights of women and is a strong advocate for expanding opportunities for women. She is affiliated to Planned Parenthood, Women Contemporary Artists, and the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota.
