Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba (1956)
Leandro Soto studied at the School of Art Rolando Escardo, in Cienfuegos, Cuba; the National School of Art (ENA), in Cubanacan, Havana, Cuba; and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in Havana, Cuba. He moved to Tabasco, Mexico, in 1988.
Leandro Soto is a multidisciplinary visual, installation and performance artist. He has also worked as a set and costume designer for theater and film. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and has received many prestigious awards including the Artistic Accomplishment Award from the State of Tabasco, Mexico, and the First Prize of the International Biennial of Art on Paper, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has received grants from the Arizona Commission for the Arts, Phoenix, Arizona; Arizona State University, Arizona; and Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts.
He currently resides in Barbados and Pune, India.
