Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Larry Forgard’s art interests inspired him to study at The Art Institute of Chicago and The American Academy of Art. He pursued a career as a graphic designer and art director for over 20 years, working in several advertising agencies and graphic design studios in Chicago. His career in studio art and design gave him the business experience and art knowledge that led him to eventually become a college instructor at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. His career included 26 years teaching 2D and 3D graphic design, drawing, and mixed media, and approximately 18 years of teaching figure dynamic studies. He has also led continuing studies for adults and workshops in North Carolina.
After retiring from Ringling, he has devoted more time to explore and develop painting using new techniques and ideas. He has shown in numerous galleries and has participated in juried exhibitions, earning top honors in painting competitions. He has also given many lectures and television interviews relating to his journey exploring the creative process.
