Humberto Castro studied at San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), Havana, Cuba. In 1989, he moved to Paris, France, where he resided until 1999.

Castro has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions in the United States and Europe. Some of his solo shows include Power and Existence, Castillo de la Fuerza, Havana, Cuba (1989); Humberto Castro, Le Monde de l’Art, Paris, France (1992); and Humberto Castro. The Paris Years. 1989-1999, Museum of Art of Fort Lauderdale, FL (2000). He has received several awards including the First International Prize in Drawing, Triennial Intergraphic, Berlin, Germany; the Prize for Installation, UNEAC Salon, Havana, Cuba; and the First Prize for Engraving at the IV Biennial of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He lives in Miami, FL.
