Born in Havana, Cuba (1958)
Consuelo Castañeda studied at San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), Havana, Cuba. She left Cuba via Mexico, where she lived from 1990 to 1993. Castañeda is a multidisciplinary artist who frequently uses painting and photography in her conceptual work. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the I Wifredo Lam Biennial, National Museum, Havana, Cuba (1984); 15 Cuban Artists, Ninart Center of Culture, Mexico DF, Mexico (1991); and For Rent, Americas Society, New York, NY, USA (2011). She recently presented a one-person show titled Instants at Dot Fiftyone Gallery, Miami, FL (2018). She has received several awards including the Cintas Foundation Grant, New York (1997-1998).
She resides in Miami, FL.
