Born in Holguín, Cuba (1955)

Arturo Cuenca studied art and literature at San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), Havana, Cuba. He immigrated to the United States, via Mexico, in 1991. Cuenca’s work has been featured in numerous individual and group shows in Cuba, the United States and Europe, including Arturo Cuenca: Modernbound, Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, Annandale-On-Hudson, NY (1995); and Sharing Roots: Cuenca and Gory, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, FL (1995). He has received several awards including the UNEAC Salon Prize, Havana, Cuba, and the Cintas Foundation Fellowship, New York, NY.
