Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba (1948)

Aldo Menéndez studied at the Albertina Academy, Vienna, Austria; the Plastic Arts School and Workshop Rolando Escardó of Cienfuegos, Cuba; and the National School of Art (ENA), Cuba. He traveled first to Spain, in 1990, and then to the United States, in 1994.

As an artist, a mentor and a founding member of the René Portocarrero Silkscreen Print Shop, he was instrumental in the development of contemporary art in Cuba. He has participated in numerous exhibitions including the I Biennial Wifredo Lam, Cuba (1984); Cuban Painting from the Nineteenth Century to the Present Time, Cultural Center of the Villa of Madrid, Spain (1989); and Color of Cuba, Universal Expo 92, Seville, Spain (1992). He has received several awards including the National Award of Cuban Culture and a grant from the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional.
