Born in Havana, Cuba (1928)

Agustín Fernández was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1928, and died in New York, in 2006.

He studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba, and the Art Students League of New York. He had a successful career as a painter, engraver, and sculptor. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums including the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Ringling Museum, Sarasota, FL; and the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America, Washington DC. An important retrospective Form’s Transgressions: The Drawings of Agustin Fernandez, was presented at The Patricia and Philip Frost Art Museum, Miami, FL, and The Snite Museum of Art, Indiana, IN (2013). He received numerous awards including Honorable Mentions, IV Biennial of Sâo Paulo, Brazil, and the III Latin American Graphics Biennial, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
