Ana Albertina Delgado

Ana Albertina Delgado was born in Havana Cuba, in 1963. She studied art at the Academia de Bellas Artes San Alejandro (1979-1983) and pursued her bachelor’s in fine arts at the Instituto Superior the Arte (ISA), where she majored in painting and graduated Summa Cum Laude (1983-1988). In 1991, she studied printmaking techniques at the Taller de Serigrafía René Portocarrero. Delgado is one of the few women who participated in what is known today as Cuba’s Eighties Generation. As one of the artists responsible for developing contemporary art on the island, she was featured in major local and international exhibitions, including Kuba OK (1990), The Nearest Edge of the World. Art and Cuba Now (1989-1994); and Los Hijos de Guillermo Tell (1991).

In 1993 Delgado moved to the United States and settled in Florida. A talented and sensitive artist, she has created a robust body of work characterized by a unique style she uses to question important topics directly and strikingly. Her bold characters inspired by real-life personages serve as protagonists of dream-like stories that deal with a wide variety of themes such as human relations—particularly women’s roles and responsibilities—, ecological issues, and storytelling. Her work delves into the psychological aspect of life through powerful images and symbols depicted with a bright palette. Her current work results from a personal introspective exploration that relates to a socially and environmentally conscious perspective, making it highly impactful and meaningful in today’s world.

Delgado has participated in numerous individual and group shows in Cuba, Colombia, Germany, Mexico, and Venezuela. Her work is included in several museum collections such as the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana, Cuba, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, in Washington D.C. She has received several awards and was recently a finalist of the prestigious CINTAS Foundation Fellowship in Visual Art (2021).
