Dance of Light

Miano Academy of Art

Miano Academy of Art is a nonprofit atelier dedicated to preserving and advancing the traditions of representational and narrative art through rigorous apprenticeship, individual mentorship, and the study of nature.

Founded by artist Charles Miano, the Academy carries forward a time-honored approach to artistic education, passing knowledge directly from artist to artist. Its mission centers on preserving traditional drawing and oil painting techniques, materials, and methods, ensuring this artistic heritage remains a living practice for future generations.

At the heart of the Academy’s teaching is the study of light. Artists learn to understand how light reveals form, creates atmosphere, and transforms the visible world. Through careful observation and disciplined practice, they develop the technical mastery needed to capture light’s beauty and poetic qualities.

Yet craftsmanship is only the beginning. The Academy encourages artists to use their skills as a language for expressing imagination, emotion, beauty, and meaning. Through figure painting, portraiture, still life, and other subjects, artists explore narrative and create work that reflects the complexity and richness of human experience.

In an age of extraordinary technological change, Miano Academy remains committed to the enduring value of learning to see, cultivating the hand and eye, and preserving the knowledge of generations past. By uniting traditional methods with individual vision, the Academy nurtures artists who honor their artistic inheritance while contributing their own voices to its continuing evolution.
