MARA ART STUDIO + GALLERY
echos of yesterday
In Echoes of Yesterday, you are invited to experience nostalgia through different and personal perspectives. Each work connects you to the past, sometimes through intimate memories, and sometimes through shared images and experiences that may feel familiar.
As you move through the exhibition, you encounter reminders of life: places, family moments, and everyday objects like tables, photographs, and keepsakes. These elements reflect connection, tradition, and the importance of gathering, suggesting spaces where stories are created, passed down, and remembered over time. Other works bring you back to childhood and early experiences, capturing moments of joy, movement, and discovery. At the same time, the exhibition invites you to reflect on beginnings, and how early memories continue to shape who you are.
There is also a quieter, more reflective side of memory throughout the exhibition. Here, memory is not always clear or complete, it can feel layered, fragmented, and emotional. Through texture, color, and layering, the works show how memories are built, erased, and formed again over time. Themes of place and history also emerge, connecting personal memory to broader cultural and spatial experiences. Some works feel deeply personal, while others remain open, allowing you to bring your own memories into what you see.
Echoes of Yesterday is not only about looking back; it is about recognizing how the past stays with you. It lives in your memories, your feelings and the way you see the world today.
Curatorial Statement; Mara Torres González
In Echoes of Yesterday, I bring together twelve artists who explore nostalgia through different and deeply personal perspectives. Each work connects to the past, sometimes through personal memories, and sometimes through shared images and experiences we all recognize. Throughout the exhibition, you will encounter familiar scenes and objects: places, family moments, tables, photographs, and keepsakes; that many of us immediately understand. These works offer a direct connection to memory, grounded in images that feel recognizable and collective.
Alongside them, other artists take a different approach. Instead of showing memory in a literal way, they focus on how it feels. Through color, texture, and layers, their work becomes more abstract and emotional, inviting you to sense memory rather than clearly see it. These pieces may not tell a specific story, but they create a space for feeling, allowing for a more personal and intuitive connection. Together, these perspectives, both the familiar and the abstract, reflect the many ways nostalgia exists. Some memories are clear and shared, while others are quiet, fragmented, and deeply individual
